Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11, 2008
As I was getting my boat out today for the first time this year I realized that Mothers Day was just around the corner. Now that I am back at my desk in my office, (yes on a Saturday), I did some online shopping (the only way I shop these days) and found some great ideas for Mother’s Day gifts this year. I have a great Mom so I like to make her Mother’s Day outstanding. She knocked herself out as a single mom to give me everything I wanted or needed even when it meant that she put her own life on the back burner. It is important to me to let her know that I noticed her contributions. I try to tell her frequently how much she means to me and to treat her well throughout the year. For Mother’s Day I knock myself out just as she did for me. If we are living in the same town as we are now, I take Mom out to dinner. I will also do something I KNOW that all Moms really appreciate. I take care of some of the minor home repairs that always need to be done around any Mom’s house. Then I start thinking about actual gifts.

Mother and Daughter Bears from the Boyd’s Collection
I considered a traditional Mothers Day Gift Basket but since my mom likes to collect things I know that she will love this adorable Mother and Daughter Bear Set I just found online tonight. These Boyd’s Bears have names that those who collect will recognize: Heather is the Mom and Lil’ Tristan is her adorable little baby. This Mother’s Day Gift collection comes in a reusable shopping bag style basket with assorted gifts, sweets, treats and a neat “Mamma’s” CD. This Mother and Daughter set would be a perfect gift for a dad to give to his wife from their young daughter. Any mother would be delighted!

Remember your Grandmother for Mother’s Day
I am sending one of my Grandmothers a similar gift also from the Boyd’s Collection which includes a bear called Grandma Bea. Instead of a traditional gift basket, a hatbox holds the bear, other collectible gifts and sweet treats. This Boyd’s Bears is adorable with Grandma Bea’s cute dress matching her hair bow. I picked a white and gold tipped preserved rose because white flowers are regarded as the flowers for those who miss their mothers due to death. Red flowers, representing life and love, are considered the symbol of love for living mothers.

My mother sent her former Mother In Law a Mother’s Day Gift
Following in my mom’s footsteps, I am also sending my future mother in law a Mother’s Day Gift to acknowledge her contribution to her wonderful daughter. She loves to garden so I am sending her a Garden & Treat Gift Basket. It includes a collection of gardening related things such as garden gloves, spa gifts, teas and sweets. I thought about sending her a Spa Gift Basket but decided that such a gift might be just a bit too familiar for a future son in law to suggest that my future mother-in-law relax and pamper herself. Maybe next year once I am a son in law.

What about Step Mothers?
My dad remarried after I left home so I am not sure what the etiquette is for a situation such as mine but just to make her feel included I am going to send her a Wine Gift Basket as an acknowledgment of her role as both a mother and a step mother. Blending families is not easy… awkward at best so I just want to make her feel appreciated. I know that my dad is happier now that he has her than he was when he was still single.

Give Mom Something to Brag About!! — Remember Mother’s Day!
I know that my mom brags about her son to her friends. Hopefully this Mother’s Day she will have something to brag about!
